Larry Gold.

Lawrence Allen Gold (b. 1989/1990) is the first son to Vicky and Dave Gold. He is the 2nd oldest of his siblings Hillary and Mike. Larry is a 16 years old, who is an odd misfit. Larry is introverted and enjoys science fiction fantasy, and Lord of the Rings. He is an avid musical fan and has flamboyant and feminine mannerism and interests that are often mistaken for homosexuality from those around him.

His father Dave believes him to be gay for his best friend Kenny, though Larry is not gay. His parents treat his flamboyancy with wary eyes.

An outcast in his own family, he is put down by all of his immediate relatives, with the exception of Vicky, who will occasionally make fun of him behind his back. Dave and Larry attempt to bond to no avail but have some success when they participate in activities geared towards Larry's interests.

In spite of his unshared interests and nerdy personality, Dave is proud of Larry in moments where he is deceptive or gets away with rule breaking. When he discovers that he stole the poem that garnered him an award and admires his conspiracy to hide the plagiarism. Similarly Dave is proud of his son upon Larry revealing that he sabotaged his chance of winning the regional spelling bee against a competing teen girl under the assumption she would go out with him and lead to intercourse.

Larry is first mistaken for gay by Dave, then as transgender by Mike and both parents, then gay again when Dave and Vicky witness him kissing Bonnie who resembles a boy at the time of their sighting. In conjunction with Larry playing the lead in the school musical, Dave fears that Larry's flamboyance is homosexuality, but comes to accept the possibility when Joe details the materialistic advantage of having two male in-laws with two male earnings and largely disposable incomes.

Later, Larry begins seeing his first girlfriend, the heavyset Marla, whom Dave disapproves of based on her body type. When Hillary gets drunk with Brenda, Larry and Brenda kiss in the garage, leading Larry to believe he "can do better" than Marla, whom he breaks up with. When Brenda declines his romantic interest he attempts to start dating Marla again to no avail.

Larry did, or thought he had a relationship with Mike's ex-girlfriend, Heidi, though she acted as if she was interested in him. In the episode Car Wars, Heidi spots Larry at a pizza restaurant (after breaking up with Mike) and pretended to be interested in Larry. When they were watching a movie Mike had entered the living room (where they were sitting on a couch) and called Heidi HeidiHo, which made her angry. Then she kissed Larry when Mike left. He had questioned her and asked her if she was only trying to make Mike jealous and try to get back together, she said no, and said she never really liked him. Larry is one of the main characters in the series. He is portrayed by actor Kyle Sullivan.
